The Lower Cape Cod Coyotes welcome you to our home on Cape Cod! This is a beautiful area characterized by quaint towns, excellent restaurants, great shopping, and some of the most beautiful natural areas in the world! Our beaches, harbors, bays, salt marshes, and tidal rivers are spectacular, and spring is a great time to see them as they wake up from winter!
In this page, we hope to give you an idea of what to expect, what to see, and where to go while you’re here for our tournaments. If you have any questions about the area, let us know and we’ll try to help you out!
Our rink is located in Orleans, a town at the eastern end of Cape Cod, before the peninsula turns north toward Provincetown.
Orleans is located about 30 miles from the Sagamore Bridge, which is for most people their passageway onto Cape Cod. As our tournament runs in the spring before the majority of the tourists show up on the Cape, traffic getting here shouldn’t be any problem. It’s a straight ride down Route 6 to Exit 12!
Aside from playing some great hockey, there is plenty to see and do here in the spring!
Orleans is the home of the very famous Nauset Beach, considered by many to be one of the best ocean beaches in the world, and certainly in the northeast. The water is cold, but the sand is beautiful and the waves are large – it’s a popular surfing spot year round, and you’re also likely to see seals and other marine mammals cruising by in the surf when you visit. It won’t be swimming weather, but many locals enjoy the beach just as much in the off-season as during the crowded summer months. Take a walk out there – you’ll understand!
Orleans also touches other bodies of water, including Pleasant Bay, where a huge population of seals is resident and has recently drawn in a number of great white sharks! Look for more on these sharks in the Discovery Channel’s 2012 Shark Week – they’ve been out there filming since the summer of 2010!
Orleans also touches Cape Cod Bay, a world-renowned resource for fishing, swimming, and beaching. In fact, Skaket Beach is located just up the street from our rink, which gives you a chance to walk for miles on the tidal flats when the tide is out.
Neighboring towns are also full of resources like these… 10 minutes to the south is the famous Chatham Lighthouse, nestled in among a quaint village of shops and restaurants. And to the north 20 minutes or so, you run into the end of Cape Cod at Provincetown, with its funkier shopping and art galleries sitting below the Pilgrim Monument – climb that to get a phenomenal view of the Cape and a good workout!
OK, so you can’t walk the beach all day long and want to see what else there is to do. Well, Cape Cod has plenty. Here are just a few ideas:

And yes, this is all centered around a great hockey tournament!
